I justed wanted to know from the guys or girls who have magnaflow or flowmaster mufflers. I want better sound but im worried about the 2500rpm drone. I've read all the debates about mufflers but none of them really addressed the drone. I'm stuck between a flowmaster 40 series or a magnaflow and i just wanted to hear the opnions from the guys or girls with the mufflers already. I want the performance sound but i also want the one that produces the least amount of drone. Thanks for any help

i have a 40 series and it does drone at cruising speed on the highway at 2k rpm. it isnt thaaaaaaaat bad though i dont think. i also have my resonator removed so it prolly wouldnt be so bad if you kept it.

Double0Alero why'd you switch from magnaflow to flowmaster and which do you like better. Did the magnaflow still give you the performance sound without the drone?
And for those with the magnaflow mufflers which mufflers do you guys/girls have. I know magnaflows not as distinct as flowmaster ex. 40, 80, 70 series etc. are most the Magnas the same (thanks for clearin this up)?

alright, long story short, the reason i switched was this...i wrecked the rear of my car, well just the muffler and it needed replaced. I couldn't be w/out my car but for a day so I took it to the local muffler shop to at least try to fix it and they said they had to replace it and all they had was flowmaster so I had to just take what they had, otherwise it was going to be another 5 days to get something in. So I took what they had and went with it. I miss my magnaflow. Honestly you're not going to notice much of any difference in performance from stock to aftermarket, you'll just notice more noise.

Has anyone ever tried the 30 series muffler? Deep tone with less interior resonance

Basically all i want to know is what a drone is...
Thank you to anybody who takes the time out to read and respond to this

basically its just being able to constantly hear your muffler at crusing speeds going down the road. its just a monotone type noise that gets rather annoying after awhile

No, "drone" is just a description of a noise. My brother has a 3.8L Firebird with flowmasters that makes an annoying sound while cruising down the road- it's hard to describe, but like a low, "brrrrrr" type sound.

A drone is a "low continuous humming sound"

how about using a resonator to lessen the drone?
Im going to install a flowmaster Hushpower 2 resonator with my 80 series, it should get rid of the raspyness and hopefully alot of the drone.
any thoughts?

Hey sound xtreme, where can you find the exhausts your talkin about?????
If you can, give me a website of where there are good prices for a good exhaust.
Thanks

Can't quote for the 3400 V6 (yet) but my Achieva (3100 V6) I started out with duel Flowmaster Delta 40s and that was a nice mellow tone.. it had a noticeable interior drone but not an excessive amount to get annoying. Two years later I decided to switch to the recently released Super 40s since they're advertised as having less drone (and stainless that was the main reason I got them). I'll tell you .. the drone was almost non existent when I switched and the tone was a bit deeper (quieter too but got louder after broken in).
As for where to get a the mufflers? At first I went to only exhaust shop that does resonable custom work in my town. I got a quote from them for the work but the only mufflers they sell are Ravin, Ractive, or cherry bombs. So I bit the bullet and order the mufflers online and paid the fee they have for outside mufflers ($50 per + needed piping).
Some sites to get you an idea:

http://www.performance-curve.com
http://www.certifiedmuffler.com
http://www.bigexhaust.com
One muffler I've really been curious on it's sound on our engines is spintech. I came really close to buying a set for the Achivea rather than the Super 40s but never did for the fear of it sounding pretty raspy
raspy - Rough; grating.
My definition: not quite ricey sounding.. but just as nauseating :P
