It's possible, and I think a couple of people are working on it (springs fastest alero?). If you do a lot of the work yourself, you would probably look at about 3G's total. One of the biggest things will be the computer reprogram. Anyone remember who else is working on this?

I've heard elsewhere (j-body I think) that it's fairly simple to reprogram the stock PCM from an automatic to a manual transmission.. in any case, a guy over on j-body.org is installing a 3400 in his 3rd gen cavy along with a 5-speed tranny

not sure how soon my project wil be taking effect.
the G6 is going to be optioned with a six speed which really appeals to me for the swap.
but I am still working on it.

Thats the same 6 speed, I hear, that's used in the new saab 9-3 (with the ecotec) and will be used with the new cobalt SS too... if it is indeed the same 6 speed as in the G6 GXP with a torquey 3.9L V6, then that's a stout tranny...

well rumor has it the gxp will be optioned with a 6 but I know the eco bolts up differently

I think the bolt pattern is the same on the ECO as it is on the 660? At least thats what I thought, all bolt patterns are the same on GM's FWD vehicles, but the QUAD4/TwinCam didnt bolt up to the 2200/ECOTEC/660/ trannies because of an odd starter location...

Either way, if you're looking for a tranny and estimating 400+HP from your engine springs you might be best off waiting for that one and seeing if you can somehow get ahold of one?

decided to add this here instead of starting a new thread.
the manual project has started.
picked up the 5 speed a few days ago for 275 shipped.

Didn't wait on the 6-speed eh?

Ah well I'm sure the 5-speed is loads easier with the shift cables and whatnot already on an alero...

yeah I couldn't wait :D
that and there are parts available for this manual. I'm sure it will be a while before there is anything for the 6 speed.
just ordered my aluminum flywheel today! :)

Just out of couriosity what are you going to do about the PCM. I mean I am not sure what is going to happen without the auto trans there, maybe just a whole lot of trans codes, I am not sure.

acording to dhp you shut the trans code off.
then reprogram the speedo for the 5 speed and such.
I've herd of some people doing tricks with light bulbs or somthing on late model berettas converted to a manual.
I dunno honestly. I know egnough to let someone else fool with the computer.

yes I have a 3.4
trans is from a 94 cavalier Z24
bolts to the motor but not the car.
linkege and clutch lines should match that of the 4 cylinder 5 speed alero
