View Full Version : Engine Seems It Could Run Better

So my car is at 111,000 kms and i've owned it since it was at 54,000kms and as far as i could guess, the spark plugs haven't been changed yet.
My main question is, how long do those stock platinum spark plugs in the Alero 2.4L last?
What brings me to ask this now is that I've noticed a slight hesitation when i rev my engine in park or whatever gear. Except when I'm driving the car, it runs fine.
And also the noise i hear when i rev when parked and the door open so that i can hear the exhaust is like a bunch of little muffled pops (hope this doesn't confuse ya).
So if anyone here can point me in the right direction...much appreciated.
Thanks

are you up-to-date with all your fluids? 111000km is about 51k miles, and all the major fluids should have been changed out at about 50k miles. If you haven't done that, try that out. If you still got problems, let us know.
As for the spark plugs...they can last QUITE a while. I'm up to 58000 miles (127600km) and I'm fairly sure they are the ones that were in there from the factory.
And if your engine and trans are fine and your muffler still sounds like that, it's time for an upgrade. ;)

it might do a little better, but probably nothing noticeable. Might use like a pint less for every 100 miles??? I mean, if the ones you have work, there's only little room for improvement. but with that kind of mileage, preventative maintenance would be a good thing.

Also change your air filter, fuel filter and clean the throttle body with throttle body cleaner (at the intake where it connects to the duct to the air filter).

Injector cleaner like TECHRON couldn't hurt. :thumb:

It might. When I changed mine, I picked up a little over 1 mpg. Then again, I had 71k miles on the old ones......
