Want To Get Nitrous

Looking to buy nitrous, but don't know much about it. don't want to run to much just a 50 or 75 shot. my car is my daily driver and don't want to mess it up, just want a little extra power, i already have a header and magnaflow muffler cold air intake and an underdrive pulley. running out of ideas to go fast. any suggestions in kits or brands would be alot of help. thanks.

by my understanding of nitrous it isn't a good idea unless your engine is built to take it... i read somewhere that a 50 shot of NO2 on a stock motor adds like 75,000 miles of wear and tear... thant's all i know about the stuff. that's all i need to know about it. unless i have the $ to build the engine.

um.. depending on where your from... don't.

i know here in ny, if you even HAVE a bottle in your car, your car is NOT insurable. its illegal to use on the street, and if you get into an accident, you looking at a steady fee and no insurance help from it.

cons way out weigh the pros. but if your still looking, check the "upgrades" page. the link is on the main one. i think there is some kits mentioned in that.

unless you take your car to the track and do some racing with it...dont even sweat it. its nothing but a cheap alternative to putting in the work for real engine modification...

with a 2.4, wouldn't you have to do a ton of engine work before it could even handle Nitrous?? :huh:

since when? the 2.4 can handle a lot more than most of you think.


max N2O shot would be 75 shot of wet and 50 shot of dry. that is being safe.

so i would recommend a wet nitrous system and jet it for 50 and get use to using it before you jump up to 75.

ok, i'll admit i was wrong w/ that last one. i've never claimed to be a professional on the 2.4L engine. (hell, i don't even claim that aleros at all... :lol: )

i'm still firm that NO2 shouldn't be ran in a stock engine.

perhaps maybe on the 3.4l v6 just because of the gasket problems, but on the ecotec and 2.4L, id say keep it under 100 shot and you will be fine, unless your blowing nitrous at idle....but i agree keep it to a small shot at first to get use to using it, then build your way up...experience pays off with nitrous cause a lackthereof only causes major problems

Same in PA and just about every state.

Unless your going to the track, I'd say don't. you'll pay $600 for the kit, you already have the header and full exhaust, I'd say go for a new head, do the 2.4/2.3 swap, give you a lot of power for a few bucks more, and it safer.

I dont know if Im late into this thread but a friend of mine put zex on his 2.2 eco and it ran a 13.47 stock other than the zex and wai.

And according to all manufacturers of nos and zex it doesnt increase engine wear unless you go with to big a shot. A 50 or 75 shot wont hurt anything and the zex kit is good for our cars b/c of the fuel pump problems many have, it wont shoot the nitrous unless the selenoid detects fuel pressure :) hope this helps.

yea...if you have the ecotec u can throw a lot at it before anything really gives....when they did the cavy buildup with the ecotec engine, i think they got close to 300hp before anything started to give way, and 400hp before they replaced the pistons and all

IF your going to do it, I would suggest a ZEX kit, The NOS kit isn't to GM friendly.

NX is an OK kit I hear

not sure which kit it is, but id recommend unless the engine is upgraded, to go with the kit that only works at wide open throtte, so u dont accidently blow nitrous at 2,000 rpm and blow the motor or something

I'll give you my experience with nitrous and a pretty much stock 2.4L.

I used to have a 2000 cavalier Z24... 2.4L automatic. I ran a 75hp shot dry ZEX kit for two years, no problems.. i had the MSD DIS-2, and copper NGK TR6 plugs. And ran 94 octane fuel. With MT slicks, I put a 13.8 down at the track after I bumped up to an approx 85-hp shot.

There was a guy named Rick King with a 98 (I think?) Cavalier Z24 auto.. ran a progressive 100hp wet NX system... put down 13.6 time and time again... over 100 times... hit 12.9 apparently one time with slicks, and blew the trans up.

My car never had a problem. I ran it for half it's life.. even drove across the country twice (10,000 km's each time) to the J-Body Bashes in 01 and 03. Oh, and California in 2002.

I consider myself lucky... never had a problem. But then someone torched the car on Halloween night 2003.

I think this post points out the limits on stock internals best. don't go up to 100-shot.
