are they the same? I think I remember reading that the EGRs changed, maybe not. but if I wanted to get a core for a 99, could i use any year?

99 and 2000 are the same, I think 2001 is the same too but I know they changed in 2002
My P&P are from a 99 and I have a 2000

If what Ken says is true, then GM made a mid-year switch in upper intake manifolds and EGR's. My 2000MY 3400 has an EGR that mounts to the back of the UIM using horizontally-positioned bolts - and it was my understanding that all cars from 2000-on were the same. 1999 cars had a flange-mount EGR, where the mounting bolts threaded vertically through the UIM.
Also, there are several revisions to the LIM, with versions stamped 99, 00, 01 and 03 (I'm currently using a PnP'ed 03 revision).

^^^ What he said. My 2000 has the horizontally mounted bolts.
