for both headlight, there are 2 3157 amber bulbs that you can see for turn signals and 2 194 clears in the markers that should be changed to 194 ambers.

nice combo, how are they?
Are anyone elses headlights sealed by black gunk stuff? It looks like all of the pictures have clear silicon in them but mine is enclosed by black stuff.. it's gooey kinda, doesn't look like silicon to me. I might be completely off here but I want to know before I get myself into a mess lol
cherrington17
03-26-2009, 10:22 PM
mine was gay... but yeah. its more rubber based rather then silicone. the clear is most likely shots from people who have already done it once.

Looks Good...I run all clear bulbs..the only difference is that my corners aren't as bright as the low and high beam lights, and therefore look like a different color.

I've seen a few people on here with the entire overlay painted black, instead of just the outward facing surface. How badly does that wreck the reflection on the chrome?

05-16-2009, 12:57 AM

DansGen1Alero

heat small sections and pull while you have the screwdriver in there. There will be a but load of silcone. For a clean job, you can take like an adheshive remover or goo off/ goo gone and remove all old silcone and redo all of that.

the best thing to do is heat up the gray putty with a heat gun and clamp the lens back on and continue to heat it. the more clamps the best. then let cool. check out the picture

Why would you do them separate ? It's much easier to do it in one shot. I have to go through the process again this time to actually remove the reflectors.

Ok, So I did this whole process yesterday and I got pretty good results. I also painted my bezels black. A couple things I would like to point out though:
1. Do the oven trick. Don't question it, just do it.
2. I figured cleaning off the bezel with alcohol after sanding (just like tinting tails) would be a good idea. Wrong. I got a weird bubbly pattern after I sprayed it. I sanded it down and its better now, but still looks odd. I had better luck with the other bezel. I sanded and painted without an alcohol wipe down, just a dry towel.
3. Rustoleum for plastic works great! No adhesion promoter needed, We will see down the road how well it really worked.
4. This is my main point!! The freezer trick did not work that well for me. I left it in there at first for 10 mins, then again for 20. It just would not come out that easily. Instead I popped it back in the oven for about 5 mins and ran a screwdriver down the groove and mostly all of it came out. It was kinda messy but it worked well.

^^^^^ Thanks for the tips! I'm hoping to tackle mine here soon as well. Hmm... I probably would have made the alcohol assumption for the bezels too.

i still haven't gotten mine done and they are sitting in the back of my wifes SUV i guess I'm just being too damn lazy to do it:( but i will eventually get them done if i have to force myself to do it or just go out and let them sit in the sun for awhile then pry them apart, idk i will see what comes out of this

Ok, so my gf has been inspired by all the crap I do to my car, and I will be clearing her G6's corners tomorrow, along with painting the bezels the body color. I was looking around on one of the G6 forums and some guy sprayed his corners with nightshades, which isn't a bad idea.
I guess if you want a somewhat different look, you can do that. It will still light up amber, but just not as bright im assuming. Legality issues maybe? IDK if the amber has to be fully/clearly visible?
Here's what they look like without flash:

O come on just spend $5 on a tube. Your gonna be sorry if you don't. If your really penny pinching, they sell squeeze tubes of the stuff at your local home depot for $4.

A lot of colors won't look good with the opaline blue aleros. That's what I had :) Anyways, I painted my bezels black. It looked hella good.

I baked my headlight assemblies to help take them apart, btw..

so what happens if you break off a couple of the bars where the clips get secured but there's more silicone then anything?
sleepyalero
07-04-2012, 11:37 AM
nothing, as long as they dont leak
Alerojester
07-04-2012, 11:41 AM
like i said mine were literally all silicone there was enough in them that i just heated it up again and put them back together and let them cool and pulled on them to see if they stuck and well they aren't gonna come back apart unless they get broken
sleepyalero
07-04-2012, 12:49 PM
you should be okay, only way to tell is if you wash your car, water will get inside... (happened to me) and only other way is if you drive in decently cold weather when you park, check to see if there is condensation in the headlight (also happened to me)
Alerojester
07-04-2012, 03:19 PM
I did check them by spraying them with the hose there isn't any leaks, also took what I did pull out of the lenses heated it up and put it where there wasn't any silicone showing

uhh.. this isnt a thread for your truck. this is about clear corner headlights..
to answer your question, me no. only some states care. my town honestly doesnt give two shts whats i do to my car.
why all those stickers? its not a drift car.

01-16-2013, 10:58 AM
X2 sleepy, and what is the point of showing off your ugly truck from the front and posting pictures of your stickers?
RalphP
01-16-2013, 11:27 AM
I4G3t - Technically, you should be ticketed every time a traffic police officer sees the truck - yes, it's illegal.
Why you'd want to drive a truck I couldn't see at night or in the rain when I'm coming up behind you I don't know. And if it's a show truck, why do the police officers see you on the street with it?
But eh. Glad you're not here. I passed enough idiots who converted their vehicles into scrap metal YESTERDAY during the freezing rain.

There tinted but with the led bulbs there still brighter then the factory bulbs. My question was refering to removing the reflector from the light housing. The stickers I made myself since I own a small vinyl business. And it is in the process of being made into a drift truck. My friend started d-day drift invasion. I started out just hauling the tires and tools and helping in the pits, he's helping making a custom lowing kit that's going to widen the truck. He's also the one that's going to help make turbo kit for the alero. Sorry I was trying to keep my car legal.
RalphP
01-17-2013, 12:11 AM
Removing the reflection is also illegal by DOT standards - specifically, see the "reflex reflector" requirements at http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/administration/fmcsr/fmcsrruletext.aspx?reg=571.108 .
If it's not red back there, it's also illegal - see that same page.
